A Transom or Two

8:00 AM

We're nearing the end of our renovation project and there is light at the end of the tunnel!!

Can I get an amen??

While we're on the subject of light, one of the features we added to the farmhouse are transom windows.  Transoms are small windows above the door frame to a room.  Interior transom windows are typically seen in older homes, although other shapes are commonly used on exterior windows and doors. We chose to place ours above the bedroom doors.

The hallway is getting board and batten added!

The windows we selected have wavy glass like you would see in older windows. It's little details like this that we hope will make the house unique.

Since the main hallway is pretty long, the windows will be great for letting in extra light into the hallway, and hopefully will provide a cozy glow inside the room.

Light coming in from the hallway

I especially love the extra character they give the hallway and rooms!

My main goal with the house is to honor the fact that it is an old home underneath.  We've tried to make our design choices with this in mind; luckily I don't like modern design aesthetics so it's been an easy task.  I love knowing that the house has history, and that the walls have held its families safe for all these years. I feel like if it's done its job so far, then I should do my best to make it feel loved in return.
