Front Porch Sittin'

The most exciting milestone we've had so far is opening up the front porch!

When we bought the house, half of the front porch was closed in to make the front room larger.  While extra interior space is hard to let go of, we knew that the house needed the full front porch.

The addition also made the house seem more modern and definitely less like a farmhouse.  For me, I knew I wanted to have a swing, chairs and plenty of space on the porch to relax and enjoy the never-ending breeze the little hill seems to have. I need ample space and seating options to drink my sweet tea.

Here's a few porch inspiration photos:

Once the guys started demo, the walls came down quickly. Rather than purchasing plywood, the next step was covering the new exterior wall with the old shiplap siding.  The wall had already been framed, so all that was left was to install the new window.

Below is the view down the porch before it was opened up.

And here it is after:

I absolutely love the openness.  Seeing it now, I can't imagine it being any other way.  My plan is to have chickens and potentially goats on one side of the yard and my flower/vegetable gardens on the other.  Now I'll be able to see both from the porch!
